Immigration Stories
These stories were produced in response to the Appo Hocton (Feb-Apr 2010) exhibition at the Nelson Provincial Museum, as part of a Museum education programme on the immigration experience. The stories told by these young students, from St Josephs School, Tahunanui School and Auckland Point School, created valuable discussions amongst classes visiting the exhibition. The exhibition is to visit other regional museums and the responses of students will hopefully form part of the exhibition there as well.
The stories sometimes contain two voices: the student and, in cases where the student is very young, a parent voice as well. They remind us that all New Zealanders have a migration story somewhere in their past.
